The third season of Mike Anderson's "Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball" will get underway Friday night when SIU-Edwardsville heads to Fayetteville for the season opener.
The Razorbacks are coming off a 19-13 season, which includes 17 wins in Bud Walton. The Cougars are coming off a 9-18 season.
Arkansas is looking to replace last seasons leading scorers, BJ Young (15.2 ppg) and Marshawn Powell (14.5 ppg).
The Hogs return 10 players from last season, including eight players that scored double digits in a game last season. The returning leading scorer is senior Coty Clarke (7.6 ppg). Clarke will be a huge factor this season for points, rebounds and even leadership.
Sophomore Anthlon Bell has improved his shooting over the off-season and will have the green-light at all times. Sophomore Michael Qualls will bring energy to the team with his high-flying dunks.
Senior Mardracus Wade will be the leading the defense and could to turn out to be one of the best defensive players in the country.
Senior Kikko Haydar brings the energy and heart to the game. If everyone played with the heart of Haydar, Haydar wouldn't be playing college basketball right now.
Freshman Bobby Portis will have a huge impact for the team this season. Portis was ranked among the top 17 players in the nation by three recruiting services. He was also listed at the No. 1 center in the nation by Rivals.com. He was just one of eight players in the country to play participate in the McDonald's All-American Game, Nike Summit Hoops and the Jordan Brand Classic in 2013.
Junior Ky Madden will be serving his final suspension during the game. He was suspended for violation of team rules and missed both exhibition games.
The Hogs will look to open the season at 1-0 and continue their 14 game win streak in Bud Walton.
