Brandon Allen was listed as the first-team quarterback on the team's post-spring practice depth chart.
Head coach Bret Bielema released the depth chart Monday, just two days after the Red-White spring game. Allen was 11-16 passing for 158 yards and one touchdown in the Red-White game.
The sophomore made one start last season against No. 1 Alabama, following a Tyler Wilson injury. Although, the Hogs came out scoreless, the opportunity allowed Allen to get a head start on experience at the starting position and against the best team in the nation.
Allen has been in competition with senior quarterback Brandon Mitchell. Mitchell has also had game experience at quarterback under Tyler Wilson. Mitchell also played at the wide receiver spot last season.
Although the depth chart stated Allen as first string doesn't mean it will be that way come fall. Allen and Mitchell will continue fighting for the position right up to the first game.
If Allen stays as starting quarterback, don't be surprised if Mitchell will get playing time at wide receiver as well as taking a few snaps.
